Here's the idea: for each position every week, the Crystal Ball tells you one player you should be starting this week that you might not have thought of; and one player that you shouldn't be starting that you just might be counting on.
QUARTERBACK
Daunte Culpepper, Dolphins (YES!): Daunte has been hugely disappointing thus far, and he may not be worth keeping after this week. However, the Texans have about as many defensive problems as a team can have. Even the seemingly punchless Redskins passing game appeared nearly perfect against them last week. Culpepper should be fine to start this week. Just don't presume he's turned the corner based on one good game.
Kurt Warner, Cardinals (NO!): The website for your fantasy league probably provides you with the defensive rankings of the opponents for your players this week. Remember that yardage rankings don't always tell the whole story. The Falcons are middle of the pack in passing yardage allowed, but they haven't allowed a passing touchdown yet. Warner has been a turnover machine. He could react well to the benching rumors. I'm guessing he doesn't.
RUNNING BACK
Maurice Morris, Seahawks (YES!): Don't go expecting Shaun Alexander numbers, but Morris should be the featured guy Sunday and get very close to all of the carries. He's ready for this chance.
Steven Jackson, Rams (NO!): You'd never know it, but the Lions seem to have a stout run defense this year. They've held their opponents under three yards per carry (and no scores) despite being outclassed in every game. Considering they held up against the Seahawks and Bears, they should be more than able to do the same against the Rams.
WIDE RECEIVER
Muhsin Muhammad, Bears (YES!): I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon here. Muhammad has two hundred yard games already, and the Seahawks have struggled to stop the pass, at least in the yardage department. Muhammad isn't physically any different from what he was two years ago, when he was the best fantasy receiver in the league.
Randy Moss, Raiders (NO!): I'm not sure the Raiders are good enough to give us an indication as to whether Moss really has lost it, but for our purposes it really doesn't matter.
TIGHT END
Chris Cooley, Redskins (YES!): The results have been very ugly so far, but his migration to the waiver wire in one of my leagues just doesn't make any sense. He's got a quarterback who needs to utilize him and an offensive coordinator who knows how to do so.
Desmond Clark, Bears (NO!): The best fantasy tight end for the first two weeks came back to earth last week, and he got dinged up to boot.
DEFENSE
Cincinnati Bengals (YES!): I'm going to keep banging this drum until everyone gets it. Start Marvin Lewis' defense. Every week. No matter what.
Baltimore Ravens (NO!): Something has to give here, as the team that commits the fewest turnovers plays the team that produces the most. Marty will play it close enough to the vest to avoid giving the Ravens too many shots at forcing Rivers into mistakes.
KICKER
Nate Kaeding, Chargers (YES!): He's good, his team is likely to settle for field goals this week, and he's available in a lot of leagues coming off the early bye week.
Sebastian Janikowski, Raiders (NO!): Don't let the fact that you recognize his name confuse you.
