Brett Favre (PRO) – Favre is a legendary quarterback who owns
many of the NFL’s all-time passing records. He’s fresh off of a 4,155
yard campaign that saw him throw 28 touchdown passes against only 15
interceptions. The durable veteran has played the full 16-game schedule
in every season since 1993. Everyone believes that Favre will have less
to work with in terms of receivers in New York. In Green Bay, Favre,
who has a reputation for making his receivers better, played with Donald Driver and Greg Jennings (7th and 2nd round picks respectively); in New York he will have Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles
(4th and 3rd round picks respectively). Everyone is worried about
Favre’s numbers dipping without Driver and Jennings, but perhaps it
will be the other way around. The Jets have revamped their offensive
line and will also commit to the running game, taking pressure off of
Favre
Mike Mady.
Brett Favre (CON) – Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, and Joe Namath
all changed addresses towards the end of their careers. Only Montana
garnered some success by leading the Chiefs to the AFC Title game
during the ’93 season. Now, Favre will try to follow in Cool Joe’s
footsteps. Broadway Brett has a few challenges in his way, though.
He’ll have to learn a new offense, new personnel, new competition, and
get into playing shape. Favre leaves a far more talented supporting
cast behind in Green Bay. Greg Jennings caught 12 touchdowns last year
while Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery combined for 11. New
York’s receivers struggle to stretch the field, which will be
problematic for the Madden ’09 cover boy. Games against the Patriots
(twice), Chargers, and Titans will not make matters easier either.
Favre reaching 28 touchdowns again with this group would be a
borderline miracle. Don’t believe the hype.
