Shakedown > Week 13

1. New England (12-0, Last week’s ranking: 1) – Suddenly, the Patriots look unbelievably weak up the middle on the defense. Had this been a better team rather than the lowly Ravens, the Pats more than likely would’ve been handed their first loss of the season. Still, Tom Brady knows how to rally his team, doesn’t he?

2. Dallas (11-1, Last week’s ranking: 2) – There is no question Terrell Owens is playing on another level. Poor Al Harris. The Packers’ cornerback simply had no chance against the stronger and faster Owens.

3. Indianapolis (10-2, Last week’s ranking: 4) – Excuses could be made that the Colts are playing without their best offensive weapon in wide receiver Marvin Harrison. However, Reggie Wayne has proven to be a No. 1 receiver and then some in Harrison’s absence.

4. Green Bay (10-2, Last week’s ranking: 3) – This was the first time we saw Brett Favre revert back to his undisciplined ways against the Cowboys before he was injured. While Favre will extend his incredible games streak, the Packers can’t avoid to continually see ill-advised throws into double coverage from their star quarterback.

5. Pittsburgh (9-3, Last week’s ranking: 6) – The way the Patriots were gashed up the middle against Baltimore, the Steelers may play that game tape over and over again.

6. Jacksonville (8-4, Last week’s ranking: 5) – The Jaguars put together a solid effort against the Colts, but dump mistakes – like an unnecessary personal foul call in the fourth quarter with the team driving – killed any chance of an upset.

7. Tampa Bay (8-4, Last week’s ranking: 8) – I’m sure a lot us were surprised with the way the Bucs’ offense, and especially third-string QB Luke McCown, piled up the yards. Even against the Saints’ defense, McCown’s 313 passing yards were impressive.

8. Seattle (8-4, Last week’s ranking: 9) – Seahawks fans should be glad Eagles QB A.J. Feeley’s favorite target was Seattle’s Lofa Tatupu. The linebacker’s three interceptions certainly saved the Seahawks.

9. San Diego (7-5, Last week’s ranking: 11)LT’s best game of the year happened at the perfect time. The Chargers always struggle in Kansas City, but Tomlinson’s 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns were more than enough for San Diego, which already looks like the AFC West champions.

10. Cleveland (7-5, Last week’s ranking: 7) – Conversely, Derek Anderson’s worst game of the season couldn’t have happened at a worse time. With the team fighting for a playoff spot, Anderson picked the wrong time to throw two interceptions and lose a fumble.

11. N.Y. Giants (8-4, Last week’s ranking: 10) – I’m still not sold on this team. Yes, Eli Manning led his team with 1:33 remaining against the Bears, but his inconsistency must drive the organization crazy. Am I right GM Jerry Reese?

12. Tennessee (7-5, Last week’s ranking: 13) – I have to give props to the Titans’ special teams. Forcing Houston rookie Jacoby Jones to fumble on a punt in the fourth quarter helped the Titans to a lead they would never surrender.

13. Arizona (6-6, Last week’s ranking: 15) – It’s clear the Cardinals need receiver Larry Fitzgerald back if they are to make a playoff push.

14. Detroit (6-6, Last week’s ranking: 13) – Your team needs four straight victories for a 10-win season, Jon Kitna. I don’t see that happening.

15. Minnesota (6-6, Last week’s ranking: 21)Adrian Peterson returns and the Vikings are sitting at .500. This kid continues to impress me every week. If there’s one running back that can challenge Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record, it’s Peterson!

16. Philadelphia (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 14) – It gets scary from here. The Eagles can’t stop turning the ball over, which is why they won’t make the playoffs this season.

17. Buffalo (6-6, Last week’s ranking: 19) – A coaching blunder by the Washington Redskins has the Bills at .500. While I’ll give them Miami, I can’t see the Bills beating Cleveland, N.Y. Giants and Philadelphia to reach the post-season.

18. Denver (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 16) – A word of advice to the Broncos bass: There are three top notch senior defensive tackles in the upcoming draft. If one slips to you, grab him!

19. New Orleans (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 17) – Head coach Sean Payton should take the blame for this loss. I know you love the trick plays, but why call a reverse with your team up by three late in the game to give the Buccaneers a short field? That turnover is a big reason you’ll be spending January at home.

20. Washington (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 18) – Here’s another coach who should give his head a shake. Maybe Bills kicker Rian Lindell makes his second chance 51-yard field goal, but it would’ve been nice to see how it all unfolded. So why, Joe Gibbs – Mr. Hall of Famer – do your coaching decisions continue to kill your team? I think it’s time to call it a career my friend.

21. Houston (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 20) – This simply isn’t Matt Schaub’s year.

22. Chicago (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 22) – I think we can officially call this a wasted season for the Bears.

23. Baltimore (4-8, Last week’s ranking: 26) – I’m not pinning the Ravens’ loss on the timeout called before the Pats’ fourth-and-one situation. Undisciplined play in the fourth quarter really hurt any chance of a monumental upset.

24. Carolina (5-7, Last week’s ranking: 24) – The Panthers first home win comes at the expense of the 49ers. That’s why they’re staying put.

25. Kansas City (4-8, Last week’s ranking: 23) – "I don't think I've lost five games in a row as a Chief. It's frustrating, because I feel like we're a lot better team than what we're playing right now," Tony Gonzalez said after the game. I don’t think so big guy.

26. Oakland (4-8, Last week’s ranking: 28) – Do you think JaMarcus Russell can play the whole game this Sunday, Lane Kiffin?

27. Cincinnati (4-8, Last week’s ranking: 25) – How does Marvin Lewis fix this mess?

28. St. Louis (3-9, Last week’s ranking: 31) – I blamed QB Gus Frerotte for St. Louis’s loss two weeks ago, I might as well praise him for the team’s win against the Falcons.

29. Atlanta (3-9, Last week’s ranking: 27) – You know you’re enduring a season from hell when Chris Redman outperforms Joey Harrington.

30. San Francisco (3-9, Last week’s ranking: 29) – It seems the New England Patriots win twice almost every week.

31. N.Y. Jets (3-9, Last week’s ranking: 30) – Beating the Dolphins is almost like a loss. That’s how I’m explaining how New York dropped one spot despite winning.

32. Miami (0-12, Last week’s ranking: 32) – Let’s just say I jumped the gun predicting this team would win a game this year. The Dolphins visit Buffalo, host Baltimore, travel to New England and face Cincinnati at home in their final four games. Do you see a potential for victory here, because I don’t.
