NFL By the Numbers > Week 10

6 vs. 4 - Interceptions thrown by Peyton Manning Sunday night in the rain in San Diego compared to the number of interceptions he had thrown in the eight games prior. One might want to blame the rain, but Manning sure did fine in the Super Bowl against the Bears in a torrential downpour. Thing is, Manning now has 10 interceptions on the season. He hasn't thrown more than 10 interceptions in a season since 2002 when he served up 19.

59 - Length in yards of the touchdown pass Rex Grossman threw to Bernard Berrian Sunday in Oakland. With the Bears on their heels down 6-3, Good Rex made an appearance in place of the injured Brian Griese. What did Good Rex do? He launched a deep pass to his favorite downfield target and connected for the winning score. Grossman loves to heave the ball downfield to Berrian, and the speedy wideout can outrun coverage with the best of them. If Grossman gets the nod to start again, Good Rex or Bad Rex, Berrian's stock rebounds.

1 - Number of games rookie sensation Adrian Peterson is expected to miss thanks to a knee injury he suffered Sunday against the Packers. Peterson was either injury prone or just plain unlucky in college. Big runner that he is, he has a big target on his back. And there's no doubt he's going to take some hard hits and some awkward ones. It's no secret why the average career for a running back in the league is around four years.

22 - Points scored by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth quarter against the St. Louis Rams. Just knowing that you'd think the Saints slaughtered the Rams. But we all know that the Saints laid a big egg against the only team in the NFC that was still winless after Week Nine. The Rams offensive stars returned. Marc Bulger threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns while Steven Jackson rushed for 76 yards, including a score, and he even threw a pass for another score.

0 - That was the line most odds makers had for the game Sunday afternoon featuring Detroit against Arizona. It would seem that the 6-2 Lions should be heavily favored against the 3-5 Cardinals, especially after coming off that impressive defensive performance against Denver last week. But know, the odds makers knew something and set the line baiting rambunctious Detroit fans. With Kurt Warner completing 26 of 36 passes, including three touchdowns, Vegas most likely cleaned up.

2003 - The season when Adam Vinatieri last missed a field goal attempt from inside 30 yards. The guy has been money his whole career, including in the most pressure filled situations and even in poor field conditions. But not Sunday. The Colts had a chance to sneak out a major come-from-behind win with 1:31 left, and Vinatieri pushed a 29-yard attempt wide right. Don't worry, though. He won't be fazed by this one miss.

21 - The number of running backs in NFL history to break the 10,000 career rushing yards mark. Fred Taylor entered that club Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville's mild upset win over Tennessee. Much like the Jaguars continued success year over year, Taylor has quietly reached this elite class. In his ten-year career, he's never been to the Pro Bowl. Go figure.

6 - Number of first downs the San Francisco 49ers got in their game Monday night against the Seahawks. In comparison, Seattle had 27 first downs. The 49ers were a dismal 1-for-12 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down. And two of those fourth downs, mind you, they had a chance to kick a field goal and at least put some points on the board en route to mounting a comeback. Instead they went for it, failed both times, never scored, and earned their seventh consecutive loss after starting the season 2-0.

10.5 - Percent of the time that Jacksonville wide receiver Reggie Williams has fumbled after catching a pass. He has just 19 catches this season, and he's lost two fumbles. But he does have four scores to his name. Larry Fitzgerald from the Arizona Cardinals likes to put the football on the ground too. Fitzgerald leads all WRs in fumbles with three, but he's caught 58 passes.

3- Number of interceptions by Antonio Cromartie on Sunday. That gives him six for the season. He benefited most from Peyton Manning's blunders. Yes, Cromartie cashed in big last week with his 109-yard field goal return for a touchdown, and he cashed in big again this week snagging Manning passes.
