When it comes to trash talking on our NFFC message boards, how far is too far?
Is it okay to insult someone’s team, lineup, draft, free agents or other choices? I’d say absolutely. I don’t think I’m a wimp when it comes to these things. I accept that, as a woman, I may never quite “get” trash talking. I’ve never enjoyed dissing my friends on the golf course. If someone misses a putt, I don’t call them Alice or a pantywaist. It’s probably something in my personal DNA. I got the football gene from my Dad. I didn’t get the trash talking gene, but maybe that’s because my Dad wasn’t a trash talker.
Honestly, I often live vicariously through you guys. I enjoy reading what you write. And I chuckle as you insult each other; or at least I usually chuckle. But a funny thing happened this year in my NFFC league. It stopped being funny and started being uncomfortable. Every time I log on, I anxiously look at the message board. Like a car crash on the side of the road, I can’t help looking at what these guys have written next. To see what I’m talking about, here is a sample of some recent “banter” from New York League 2. I haven’t changed much of the punctuation or spelling so excuse the typos:
“WHen you were winning you were not complaining about the message board. You were actually gloating about when your next win would be. Now that you can't buy a win with a fist full of hundreds in a womens prison, you are whining about teams picking on you on the message boards. If you would just man up, your team might just win a game!!!! Maybe NOT !!!!!! LMAO” Posted By: Fantasy Fanatic

Just a few steps away from where we all drafted--and seemed to get along--save for my calling out a few players who were already drafted--and letting KapeFear pick Mr. Addai for me -- there was a long-running play on Broadway called the Putnam County Spelling Bee. It revolves around a high school competition that features students competing in the annual contest
Some are good at it; some are bad
like the Fantasy Fanatic -- he cleverly comes back with a reference to one of my all-time shows -- My Favorite Martian--using Ray Walston who played Uncle Martin rather than Bill Bixby as his example--a good one
then further down he reveals his true intellect -- and mentions the US Department of Immegration
How do you spell immigration, they ask the Fanatic in the Putnam County Spelling Bee?

If the above comments don’t seem like they’ve crossed the line of what’s fun and gotten unpleasant and inappropriate, I’ve spared you some of the worst messages. I haven’t used a lot of the personal insults and homophobic comments.
One of our players, Fantasy Fanatic, has been attacking another, Kape Fear, for weeks now. At first, the banter seemed playful. Then it escalated and I figured, “boys being boys.” But it’s gotten so bad that the other guys on the board have commented and asked these guys to ease up. Nothing seems to work.
While I know that money is at stake, and I get being competitive, am I missing something here? Is it somehow fun when one guy personally attacks another week after week? It’s gotten so bad, I half expect to hear that one of these guys has gotten a retraining order on the other.
If I am missing something, write in to CREATIVESPORTS.com and tell me what I’m missing. And let me know if there is a line of what’s acceptable for trash talking on a message board or not. I look forward to your comments.
