Two meaningful real-life NFL trades occurred on Tuesday just before the trade deadline. Historically, the NFL trade deadline comes and goes with hardly a whisper, mainly due to the salary cap implications that typically come with the guys on the trading block. But 2007 was different, with one very solid roto-guy moving to a better overall team while the other moves into a situation where he might actually play.

Chris Chambers was a solid-contributing number two wide receiver acting like a number one for a team going nowhere. Chambers had more balls thrown his way in the first six games of the season than any other wide receiver, but has not seen the end zone in nearly one full season’s worth of games. Logically, you can expect Chambers’ looks to go down (and maybe his reception total as well). With so many other weapons for defenses to cover when they play the Chargers, there it is also logical to project that he will actually start to score some touchdowns.

Michael Bennett goes from fantasy-nothing to a hot free agent. If Bennett is not already owned in your league, expect him to go for big bucks in free agent bidding this week. Bennett has not been a solid NFL contributor for several seasons, but the Bucs were able to get him cheap and he must have been better than the other options being offered in trade. Can Bennett be an effective fantasy running back? I doubt it. Expect the Bucs to effectively mix in Bennett with Graham and use their strong short-passing game to move the ball. The goal-line carries will still go to Graham, strongly minimizing Bennett’s overall value.

Remember that Week Seven is another bye week with a four teams staying home. Reserve all of your Cleveland Browns (sorry Braylon Edwards owners), Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers (good week to be playing the LaDainian Tomlinson owner), and the Carolina Panthers (Vinnie has a week off to recover in the old folks home).
