NFL By the Numbers > Week Five

82 - That's the number to keep an eye out for on in a Chicago Bears jersey. Rookie tight end Greg Olsen had what some might argue his breakout game against the Packers Sunday night. He had four catches good for 57 yards and his first TD. His size and speed make him an excellent target for Brian Griese, and his young moxy might be the spark the Bears need on offense.

0 - Points scored by the Seattle Seahawks against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. It's not all that common that we see a shutout anymore in the NFL. If you had Shaun Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck, Deion Branch, or Bobby Engram playing this week in your fantasy games, you were hoping you ran into a team that had one of the many to get injured this weekend.

21- The number of times in their storied history that the Detroit Lions have gone to play the Washington Redskins in our nation's capital. It also happens to be the number of times Washington has beaten Detroit. And, man did they beat them Sunday! To the tune of a 34-3 final. Jason Campbell completed 79.3% of his passes and threw for two scores to lead the way for the Redskins.

0-4 - Record for the New Orleans Saints. Coming off a bye week and playing at home, one would have thought they would have taken it to the battered Carolina Panthers. And despite knocking backup David Carr out of the game for a while, Drew Brees and company still didn't have enough to muster a win against the Panthers. They'll get another shot at Carr, though, as Jake Delhomme is done for the season.

7 - Number of touchdown passes caught this season by Plaxico Burress. He is just pounding the opposing defenses and using his size to his advantage. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has a good chemistry going with Burress right now, and he keeps putting the ball where only he can catch it. Burress caught just five passes Sunday, but one was for a touchdown, and he rattled off 124 yards. He's now scored in every week this season.

57 - Distance of the game-winning field goal kicked by Houston's place kicker Kris Brown on Sunday to beat Miami and end a two-game losing streak. Houston is in last place in the AFC South, but they have a 3-2 record. Tennessee and Jacksonville also pulled out squeaky wins to move to 3-1, a half game up on the Texans. And naturally, the division is still led by the 5-0 Indianapolis Colts.

28, 121, 2 - Rushes, yards, and touchdowns for Indianapolis Colts reserve running back Kenton Keith. With Joseph Addai out, Keith got the call, and he capitalized big time on his opportunity. If you were quick enough to the waiver wire, you likely cashed in equally as big in a low-scoring fantasy week. Some argue that Denver has the offense where any old grandma could rush for 1,000 yards. Either the Colts offense does too, or they've got one heckuva scouting team.

69.0 vs. 102.3 - Passer rating for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner versus his old team, the St. Louis Rams, compared to his season average. Warner didn't have his best game filling in for the injured Matt Leinart, but he did limit the damage and got the ball to Larry Fitzgerald early and often. With Anquan Boldin out, Fitzgerald caught nine passes for 136 yards and his first score of the season.

41 - Points put up by the San Diego Chargers Sunday visiting Denver. In a heated divisional game, the seemingly down and out Chargers beat the snot out of Denver. They held the Broncos to just 3 points and had their way with them on offense. Philip Rivers made it look easy completing just 13 passes for 270 yards and two scores. And Michael Turner got one of those patented late scores, breaking one for 74 yards in the fourth quarter to put the exclamation point on that 41-3 final!

6 - In a scene reminiscent of the Rex Grossman meltdown in the desert last year on Monday night, the number of turnovers Tony Romo had against the Bills this past Monday night. Coincidentally, the Cowboys mounted a similar comeback as did the Bears. Romo tossed five interceptions and lost one fumble, but never game up. The Cowboys mounted a comeback fueled by an onside kick, and two final-second 53-yard field goals by Nick Folk (the first one didn't count because of a called timeout). End result: the Cowboys pulled off an improbable win to remain undefeated.
