Chutes 'n' Ladders > Bizarro Week

Week 14 was one of the most shocking weeks of the season. We saw the Dolphins blank the Patriots 21-0 as Tom Brady managed just 78 yards passing, the Jaguars piled on an amazing 375 yards on the ground against the dangerous Colts and another unbelievable come-from-behind win from the up-and-coming Titans. LaDainian Tomlinson also broke Priest Holmes touchdown record with his 29th rushing score and guys like Chris Weinke, Artose Pinner and Drew Carter rose from the ashes to post strong fantasy lines. We’ll get you caught up on the hottest free agents on the waiver wire, a few big-name injuries and a look at next week’s schedule – including some Thursday and Saturday football.

Free Agent Possibilities
Quarterbacks
Chris Weinke, CAR 34-for-61, 423 yards, TD, three INT, 16 yards rushing
J.P. Losman, BUF 10-for-15, 157 yards, two TD
Jeff Garcia, PHI 15-for-23, 164 yards, two TD
Jay Cutler, DEN 17-for-30, 188 yards, two TD, FL
Joey Harrington, MIA 18-for-30, 190 yards, TD
Derek Anderson, CLE 21-for-37, 276 yards, TD, INT, FL
Jason Campbell, WAS 15-for-27, 182 yards, TD, two INT, 38 yards rushing
Aaron Brooks, OAK 23-for-39, 199 yards, TD, INT, 11 yards rushing
Brad Johnson, MIN 14-for-22, 159 yards, INT, 10 yards rushing, TD
David Carr, HOU 17-for-23, 140 yards
Tim Rattay, TB 9-for-13, 83 yards
Bruce Gradkowski, TB 13-for-24, 121 yards, FL
David Garrard, JAC 8-for-14, 79 yards

With Jake Delhomme sidelined, Weinke replaced him with a 423-yard passing game in Sunday’s loss to the G-Men. He threw 61 passes in the game, but managed just one TD. Coach John Fox said on Monday that Delhomme (thumb) would return in week 15 against Pittsburgh if he can demonstrate he’s healthy, but Weinke would get the nod otherwise. Consider the FSU product a QB2 option if he’s behind center again. … Garcia has been quietly very effective since taking over for the injured Donovan McNabb. He improved to 2-1 as the starter with a win over Washington Sunday, and has now thrown eight touchdowns and zero interceptions on the season. The Eagles are somehow 7-6 now and still alive in the NFL playoff hunt. He’ll go again the Giants, who are also 7-6, next Sunday and is, all a sudden, a decent fantasy option once again. … Cleveland has found themselves in a bit of a quarterback controversy after a strong game from Derek Anderson in Thursday’s loss to the Steelers. The Browns will have tough matchups against Baltimore and Tampa Bay the next two weeks, but Anderson could have some value in the finale against Houston. Charlie Frye's return is questionable.

Running Backs
Artose Pinner, MIN 29 rushes, 125 yards, three TD, two rec, 15 yards, FL
Mike Karney, NO 14 yards rushing, TD, five rec, 39 yards, two TD
Sammy Morris, MIA 25 rushes, 123 yards, TD, two rec, 39 yards
Ron Dayne, HOU 21 rushes, 87 yards, two TD, three rec, 12 yards
Vernand Morency, GB seven rushes, 69 yards
Anthony Thomas, BUF 15 rushes, 42 yards, three rec, 23 yards
Michael Pittman, TB seven rec, 73 yards
Alvin Pearman, JAC 13 rushes, 71 yards, TD
Kevin Faulk, NE five rushes, 29 yards, two rec, 12 yards
Justin Griffith, ATL 12 rushes, 57 yards, TD
Najeh Davenport, PIT 14 rushes, 62 yards, rec, 21 yards
Lorenzo Neal, SD three rushes, 20 yards, TD
Cedric Houston, NYJ 18 rushes, 50 yards, rec, seven yards
Justin Fargas, OAK 13 rushes, 37 yards
Chris Brown, TEN four rushes, 44 yards

Vikings coach Brad Childress went with the hot hand Sunday against the Lions, giving Pinner a career-high 29 carries against his former teammates. He came through with 125 yards and three TDs. Childress entered the game with the idea of going with the hot hand and Pinner emerged valiantly over Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore. With Chester Taylor questionable for next week, Pinner could be in store for big numbers again against the Jets in week 15. They are allowing 139.2 rushing yards per game, 27th in the NFL. … Morris is expected to get another start in the Dolphins backfield again next week. On Monday, coach Nick Saban said that Ronnie Brown (hand) is not expected to return in week 15, so Morris should get his third straight start at RB. He’s got two good matchups the next two weeks against the Bills and Jets, who each rank in the bottom-seven against the rush.

Wide Receivers
Drew Carter, CAR eight rec, 144 yards, TD
Marty Booker, MIA eight rec, 103 yards, TD
D.J. Hackett, SEA four rec, 104 yards, TD
Bryant Johnson, ARI three rec, 81 yards, TD
Joe Jurevicius, CLE seven rec, 11 yards
Ronald Curry, OAK eight rec, 99 yards, TD
Antwaan Randle El, WAS six rec, 85 yards, TD, 1-for-1, 40 yards
Drew Bennett, TEN six rec, 113 yards
Mike Furrey, DET nine rec, 84 yards, FL
Santonio Holmes, PIT four rec, 81 yards
Nate Washington, PIT two rec, 67 yards, TD
Samie Parker, SD five rec, 71 yards
Vincent Jackson, SD three rec, 95 yards
Reggie Brown, PHI three rec, 73 yards

Sometimes when a backup quarterback gets a chance to shine, it’s common for him to use a backup receiver as his favorite target. And that’s exactly what happened for Carolina, as Weinke looked to Drew Carter early and often Sunday. He came through with career-highs of eight receptions and 144 yards in the loss, but is not an advisable fantasy option with the presence of Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson cemented ahead of him. … Booker has emerged as Joey Harrington’s favorite option in Miami as well. The 30-year-old has racked up 20 catches, 279 yards and four touchdowns in the past three games, and the Dolphins have won five of their past six contests.

Tight Ends
Vernon Davis, SF three rec, 74 yards, TD
Tony Scheffler, DEN three rec, 66 yards, two TD
Robert Royal, BUF two rec, 13 yards, TD
Kris Mangum, CAR four rec, 45 yards
Ben Utecht, IND three rec, 32 yards
Daniel Graham, NE four rec, 23 yards, FL

Major Offensive Injuries
There’s talk out of Motown on Monday that the Lions fear RB Kevin Jones broke his left foot during Sunday’s game. His injury is symptomatic of a lisfranc fracture, which would likely require surgery and could – in a worse case scenario - take up to a year or more to heal completelyl. Jones' foot got caught under DE Kenechi Udeze during a tackle and the back was forced to be on crutches after the contest. He'll be re-evaluated this week, including an MRI on Monday, but it looks like Arlen Harris is going to take over the Lions primary ball carrier duties for the final three games.

Jerious Norwood (strained knee) and Warrick Dunn (calf) both sustained injuries in the Falcons win over Tampa Bay Sunday, and each were walking with significant limps afterwards. Falcons coach Jim Mora said that each player will be "questionable" for Saturday’s game with Dallas. Justin Griffith filled in admirably in their stead, scoring his first career rushing TD. Norwood is apparently not likely to suit up, but their statuses will be updated throughout the week.

Fred Taylor suffered a “minor tweak” of his hamstring in the Jaguars blowout over the mighty Colts this weekend. He went to the locker room in the third quarter and didn’t return, but still managed to rack up 131 yards on just nine carries. If the game wasn’t such a whitewash, he could have possibly returned, but coach Jack Del Rio was cautious with his veteran back. Maurice Jones-Drew, who tallied 166 yards rushing and three TDs Sunday, could be in store for a monster game in week 15 against Tennessee if Fragile Freddy cannot suit up.

Randy Moss departed in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Bengals with what is being called a "tender ankle." He was unable to return and just managed two receptions for 28 yards as the Raiders fell to 2-11 on the season. Through 13 games, he’s compiled career-lows across the boards with just 42 catches, 553 yards and three TD's. As Oakland continues to struggle, the once elite fantasy player is no longer even worth starting in the deepest leagues. He’s only managed one 100-yard contest all year.

Brandon Stokley injured his right Achilles' tendon in the third quarter on Sunday and was unable to return. He fell to the ground while running a pattern, untouched, and is feared to be done for the remainder of the season.  Veteran Ricky Proehl replaced him as the Colts slot receiver, but has minimal fantasy appeal. Since racking up 1,077 yards in 2004, Stokley has just managed 628 yards receiving the past two seasons.
