This past weekend saw injuries slice threw the fantasy elite like a stick of butter on a hot day. Perennial superstars
Donovan McNabb, Marques Colston and
LaMont Jordan each had to be carted off the field on stretchers. Even the
Lou Gehrig of Football,
Brett Favre,
was forced to leave the game with a right arm injury, leaving his
251-consecutive-game streak in jeopardy. We’ll discuss each of these
injuries, as well as the Bills amazing offensive game, a new selection
of fantasy running backs now available and next week’s schedule of
games, including three Thanksgiving Day contests.
Free Agent Possibilities
Quarterbacks
J.P. Losman, BUF 26-for-38, 340 yards, three TD, INT, 14 yards rushing
Jason Campbell, WAS 19-for-34, 196 yards, two TD, 11 yards rushing
Seneca Wallace, SEA 19-for-31, 252 yards, two TD, three INT, 21 yards rushing
Joey Harrington, MIA 26-for-42, 254 yards, TD, INT
Alex Smith, SF 19-for-25, 16 yards, TD
Aaron Brooks, OAK 13-for-22, 179 yards, TD, INT, 4 yards rushing
Bruce Gradkowski, TB 14-for-21, 178 yards, two TD, INT, FL
Jeff Garcia, PHI 26-for-48, 189 yards, TD
Brad Johnson, MIN 26-for-44, 262 yards, INT, 19 yards rushing
Aaron Rodgers, GB 4-for-12, 32 yards, 11 yards rushing, FL
Losman and Lee Evans were unbelievable together this Sunday. No. 83
Evans caught a pair of identical 83-yard touchdown grabs and compiled
11 catches for 265 yards in all. Losman finished with a season-best 340
yards through the air. … Harrington has quietly led the Dolphins to
three straight wins. He has been efficient in his six starts and will
get a chance to play against his old team in Detroit on Thursday. The
Lions pass defense ranks No. 23 against the pass, allowing 216.5 YPG. …
Matt Hasselbeck
(knee) could return next week against the Packers on Monday night so
the Seneca Wallace-experiment could be coming to an end. He’s been
strong though, throwing for eight touchdowns in the past four games. …
The Raiders and Chiefs featured two teams with quarterbacks returning
from serious injuries.
Trent Green led K.C. to a slim 17-13 victory over
Aaron Brooks
and Oakland. Brooks returned from a nine-week absence and threw for 179
yards, with 85 of those going to Ronald Curry. He’s looked atrocious in
a Raiders uniform and isn’t even really worth using as your QB2 right
now.
Running Backs
Samkon Gado, HOU 10 rushes, 69 yards, TD, five rec, 30 yards
Correll Buckhalter, PHI three rushes, 16 yards, six rec, 41 yards
Justin Fargas, OAK 19 rushes, 52 yards, rec, 12 yards
Arlene Harris, DET 10 rushes, 40 yards, TD, rec, six yards
Damien Nash, SD 10 rushes, 52 yards, three rec, 36 yards
Aaron Stecker, NO five rec, 53 yards
Jason Wright, PIT 18 rushes, 74 yards, rec, six yards
Nick Goings, CAR four rushes, 34 yards, two rec, 25 yards
Cedric Houston, NYJ 11 rushes, 50 yards
Maurice Hicks, SF five rushes, 17 yards, three rec, 19 yards
Mike Alstott, TB six rushes, 28 yards, rec, eight yards
Michael Bennett, KC three rushes, 43 yards, two rec, 10 yards
The Texans used a two-headed monster in their backfield Sunday against Buffalo, as Gado piled up a team-high 69 yards and
Wali Lundy amassed 61 yards. Both had end zone celebrations, as well. Coach
Greg Kubiak
seems to be content with using a both backs, so consider each a RB3 or
flex option at best. … Houston returned from a five-game absence and
got the brunt of the Jets carries Sunday.
Leon Washington appeared to have a slight edge on the job after a few big games, but was held to just 22 yards on the ground. With
Kevan Barlow also in the mix, it’s too much of a crapshoot to really on these backs. … Harris is a fine pick-up with
Kevin Jones nursing an ankle injury. He could get the Thanksgiving Day start – be sure to watch Jones’ status throughout the week. …
Reuben Droughns
sat out week 11 with a foot injury, so Wright got a rare start and
compiled a respectable 74 yards rushing. He did a fine job in the tight
loss to the Steelers, but could find himself back in a No. 2 role as
Droughns is expected to return.
Wide Receivers
Lee Evans, BUF 11 rec, 265 yards, two TD
Devery Henderson, NO nine rec, 169 yards
Terrance Cooper, NO six rec, 87 yards, TD, FL
Mark Bradley, CHI four rec, 80 yards, TD
Marty Booker, MIA six rec, 84 yards
Arnaz Battle, SF five rec, 47 yards, one rush, 12 yards
Travis Taylor, MIN eight rec, 67 yards
Ronald Curry, OAK five rec, 85 yards
Reche Caldwell, NE three rec, 70 yards, TD
Bryant Johnson, ARI four rec, 47 yards, TD
Vincent Jackson, SD three rec, 39 yards, TD
Tim Dwight, NYJ five rec, 40 yards, one rush, 28 yards
Peerless Price, BUF two rec, 21 yards, TD
Michael Jenkins, ATL three rec, 23 yards, TD
James Thrash, WAS four rec, 46 yards
Drew Brees threw for 511 yards in a loss to the Bengals this
week and is averaging over 400 yards per game passing in the past four
contests. Henderson and Cooper each have emerged as viable fantasy
weapons. Henderson is a great pick-up if Colston is unable to play
because of his ankle ailment. … Jenkins has four touchdowns in his past
five games in the Falcons improved pass attack. He doesn’t post a ton
of receptions and yardage, but he sure seems to find the end zone.
Tight Ends
Justin Peelle, MIA three rec, 21 yards, TD
Courtney Anderson, OAK three rec, 15 yards, TD
Eric Johnson, SF four rec, 48 yards
Ben Troupe, TEN rec, 14 yards, TD
Anthony Becht, TB two rec, nine yards, TD
Major Offensive Injuries
Donovan McNabb tore his ACL in Sunday’s game against Tennessee
and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. He landed
awkwardly on his leg after was able to avoid the rush of
Kyle Vanden Bosch and had to be carted of the field.
Jeff Garcia will likely take over as the team’s starting field general, while there’s a slim chance
A.J. Feeley
could get the nod. He came in and went 26-for-48 for 189 yards and a
touchdown. This news hurts the value of all the Eagles playmakers, as
Brian Westbrook, Donte Stallworth and
Reggie Brown should all be taken down a notch.
Iron man legend
Brett Favre injured his right arm when he was
slammed to the ground by a couple Patriot defenders this past weekend.
His record of 251 straight starts is in jeopardy against Seattle on
Monday Night Football now. The ageless veteran said he plans on playing, but the trainers and coach
Mike McCarthy have to clear him first.
Aaron Rodgers struggled
mightily in his absence and would hurt the other Packers offensive
players’ values if he to be thrown into the starting lineup.
Marques Colston had to be carted into the locker room against
the Bengals Sunday afternoon after spraining his ankle. He was unable
to return and is listed as questionable for next week against the
Falcons.
Devery Henderson filled in admirably in his stead, racking up nine catches for 169 yards, while
Joe Horn (3,69,1) and
Terrance Cooper (6,87,1) also put together fine performances.
LaMont Jordan is expected to miss the remainder of the season
with a torn ACL. He finished a lackluster season with just 434 yards
rushing and two touchdowns.
Justin Fargas will replace him as the starting running back, while
Zach Crockett gets more looks near the goal line.
Kevin Jones departed this weekend’s game with what is initially
believed to be a high ankle sprain. Detroit has a short week of
practice with their next game on Thanksgiving so his status for week 12
is a bit up in the air.
Arlene Harris would get the start in
the backfield if he were unable to go. He rambled for 40 yards and a
touchdown in mop-up duties this past week.
DeShaun Foster hyperextended his elbow and was unable to return.
He underwent some tests and nothing was deemed broken, but his status
for next week is very up in the air. Rookie
DeAngelo Williams broke out with 114 yards and a touchdown in his absence and could get his first start of his career if Foster is unable to.
Nick Goings will also figure to get some of the touches.
To quote The Talented Mr. Roto – Fosters, Australian for questionable.
