Here we are half-way through the NFL season, and much of what we thought we knew at the beginning of the season we really did not know at all.
Shaun Alexander has clearly proven to be a distant third among the big three (with Larry Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson holding up their end of the bargain). Even before missing the past several games with a bad foot, Alexander was struggling behind a weakened offensive line.
Lamont Jordan and Cadillac Williams were clearly not first round material.
Looking at the 20 highest scoring NFFC teams to date, what do you see?
- Nine of the teams have either Johnson or Tomlinson.
- Six of the teams have Donovan McNabb as their quarterback.
- You can be competitive with Steven Jackson, Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Rudi Johnson, Tiki Barber, Ronnie Brown, and Brian Westbrook as your first round choice. Teams with those players as their top choice are each represented in the top 20.
As for the free agents, clearly Marques Colston was the big acquisition as he is putting up Anquan Boldin-like rookie season numbers.
There are still five weeks to go in the NFFC season and most of the leagues are still wide open. The teams in the lead are guaranteed of nothing. One Tomlinson twisted ankle knocked a whole bunch of people out of the running.
If you are playing in the NFFC and have a roster like mine that started with Lamont Jordan, please continue to set your best starting lineup each week. Even if your team is bad, you can still play a role in the outcome of the event.
