Crystal Ball > Week 5

The purpose of the Crystal Ball is to assist you in choosing your starting lineup each week by focusing on guys on your bench (or the waiver wire) who you should be starting and guys in your starting lineup who shouldn't be starting.

QUARTERBACK

Brad Johnson, Vikings (YES!): Make no mistake -- Johnson has been a terrible fantasy quarterback through the first quarter of the season. And things may not get better. However, there should be a brief oasis this week against the Lions, whose pass defense is even worse than the Vikings passing game.

Drew Brees, Saints (NO!): He's the opposite of Johnson. A guy who is having a good year and should continue to do so, but not a good matchup this week. Hidden in all of the Bucs other woes is the fact that they play pretty good pass defense. The stats are further amplified by the fact that they've struggled to stay in games, leading opponents to run a lot against them.

RUNNING BACK

Dominic Rhodes, Colts (YES!): It probably won't be too long until Rhodes loses the starting job to Joseph Addai. But against Tennessee, there should be plenty of points to go around. Rhodes produced a solid fantasy performance last week, and should be in the same range again.

Willie Parker, Steelers (NO!): Parker may be underrated from a fantasy perspective, but he should have a lot of trouble this week against a stingy Charger rush defense. They haven't allowed a touchdown on the ground yet, which only adds to Parker's weakness in this regard.

WIDE RECIEVER

Braylon Edwards, Browns (YES!): The second pick in last year's draft fell too far in a lot of drafts this year, even in keeper leagues. He's either fully healthy or so good that it doesn't matter that he isn't one hundred percent.

Anquan Boldin, Cardinals (NO!): The only thing it seems you can be sure of with the Cardinals is whatever they do in the off-season isn't going to work. They add Edgerrin James, and the offense somehow gets worse instead of better. With a new quarterback, you don't want to be counting on Boldin this week.

TIGHT END

Jeremy Shockey, Giants (YES!): One of a number of tight ends whose stock has dropped unnecessarily early this year. Sure, he thinks he can call the plays better than the coaching staff. Everyone can agree that Shockey needs to be very involved in the passing game.

Randy McMichael, Dolphins (NO!): Just to make it clear that not every top six tight end at draft time whose stock has dropped is underrated. Miami's offense is shockingly bad.

DEFENSE

Indianapolis Colts (YES!): A high turnover defense faces mistake prone Tennessee, who now has a rookie quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers (NO!): If the Chargers didn't make mistakes against the Ravens, they're not going to make a lot of mistakes against anyone.

KICKER

Robbie Gould, Bears (YES!): Neil Rackers should have been all anyone needed to see to demonstrate that undrafted kickers scoring a lot in the early going often keep it going all season. This is a reminder.

Josh Scobee, Jaguars (NO!): Jacksonville should be a good situation for a kicker, but Scobee doesn't seem to be able to take advantage.
