We are now a quarter of the way through the season. And while there are still three months remaining in the season, it is definitely time to assess your team’s realistic expectations.

If you are 4-0 or 3-1, look at your total points, margin of victory, and whether your key players have already had their byes. Records in head-to-head play can be deceiving. Do you have a surplus in one position that you can consider trading? Now is the time to make those deals, while no team is too far our of the competition to make a move.

If you are 0-4 or 1-3, you need to determine your panic point. One of my National Fantasy Football Championship teams is 0-4, thanks to three narrow head-to-head losses. If you have a bad record and one stud player, now is the time to consider trading that player for two or three very good players. You cannot afford to lose again any time soon.

This is a key week for all fantasy owners to remember the bye situation when considering your free agent bids. Starting in week six (next week) there will be six NFL teams on byes (Cleveland, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New England). Same goes for week seven (Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tennessee). Now is the time to get a jump on your fellow owners that will likely need to fill roster spots.
