Breaking News: The All Star game is coming up next Tuesday. I started to reminisce about some of the great moments that the AL has had in this game since I have
been watching this extravaganza. Here are some of my favorite moments:
1. Reggie Jackson hitting a Home Run of off the Light tower in Detroit during the 1971 game.
2. The 1999 game saw Pedro Martinez strikeout Barry Larkin, Larry Walker, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Jeff Bagwell.
3. I think this same game saw the players circle around Ted Williams, paying tribute to a player who could play in any Era.
That is why baseball becomes ingrained in our genes. I think if you could Hit and Pitch in 1948 and dominate, you could do so in 2008. This is not true in Basketball or Football. You take George Mikan and roll him out in a wheelchair, and I am sure guys like Shaq would be thinking they could slam on him all day. I am not so sure Josh Beckett would think he could dominate Ted Williams, he sure would try, but my bet would be on the Splendid Splinter getting a Knock.
Injuries:
Vernon Wells(OF TOR) - Severely strained his hamstring and will miss up to six weeks.
Erik Bedard(SP SEA) - Went on the DL with a bad back.
Vicente Padila(SP TEX) - On the DL with a neck injury.
Bobby Jenks(RP CHW) - Bad back has him on the 15 Day DL.
Johnny Damon(OF NYY) - Sore shoulder has him on the DL.
Who's Hot:
1. Jermaine Dye(OF CHW) - Hitting .301 with 20 HR's.
2. Nick Markakis(OF BAL) - Has his average up to .303 with 50 RBI's.
3. Kevin Youkilis(1B BOS) - Got All Star nod and is batting .319 with 14 HR's
4. Masahide Kobayashi(RP CLE) - Looks like the favorite for saves in Cleveland.
Who's Not:
1. Richie Sexson(1B SEA) - Was given his unconditional release by the Mariners, making his fall complete.
2. Jarrod Washburn(SP SEA) - ERA is up to 5.03 pithcing in Seattle, which is not a bad pitchers park.
3. Joe Borowski(RP CLE) - Released by the Indians.
Fantasy Studs(Last 7 Days)
1. Miguel Cabrera(3B DET) - Hit 5 Dingers.
2. Justin Morneau(1B MIN) - Went 13-26, a .500 BA.
3. Denard Span(OF MIN) - Batted .500 by going 10-20.
Fantasy Duds(Last 7 Days)
1. Jack Cust(DH OAK) - Went 4-29 a .138 BA.
2. Carlos Quentin(OF CHW) - Went 5-25 a .200 BA.
3. Melky Cabrera(OF NYY) - Hit .227 going 5-22.
