The NFBC Zone > Looking Up From The Bottom

Last month I focused on players that were two-month steals – those players that have been keys to why a fantasy team is on top of the standings. This month we will take a look at some of the players that are key contributors to teams in the bottom of the NFBC standings – those teams ranked between 381 and 390. Each of these players is on more than one team in the bottom-10. In most cases, the teams in the bottom of the NFBC standings are there because they used multiple top-ten draft selections to roster these players (and like all 390 teams that drafted in mid-March, none of them expected to scroll down to bottom of the overall standings and see their names). Note that the reference to draft position are from Orlando 2
  1. David Wright, Matt Holliday, and Ryan Howard – All were taken in the first round (Wright at 5, Holliday at 6, and Howard at 15). None get drafted before Chase Utley in 2009.
  2. Vladimir Guerrero – A mid-second round pick (2-7) appears on the roster of three bottom feeders. Vlad sure did get old quickly.
  3. Eric Byrnes – I am surprised that the over-valued Byrnes (3-5) only appeared on two bottom-feeder rosters.
  4. Rafael Furcal – After to a hot start, an injury has turned Furcal (3-12) into a high-priced bust.
  5. Chone Figgins – Like teammate Guerrero, Figgins (4-10) also appears on three bottom-end rosters
  6. Ryan Zimmerman – Zimmerman (5-2) was a bust before his injury.
  7. Aaron Harang – Went at 5-11, just a little before Haren and Kazmir
  8. Chris Young (P), Nick Swisher, Vernon Wells, Paul Konerko, and Delmon Young – The sixth round was a graveyard for big names that have become bottom-feeders. C. Young (6-7), Swisher (6-8), Wells (6-9), Konerko (6-10) and D. Young (6-14) all looked like good value picks when they were made.
