Tigers Option OF Matt Joyce to Triple-A Toledo and Recall OF Clete Thomas from Triple-A Toledo.
Thomas saw significant playing time when Curtis Granderson was hurt, and was sent down to get regular at-bats.  This time around he's just a platoon player.  What is interesting is that he hit 5 HR in Triple-A in just one month.  He has only eight all last year.

Athletics Reinstate 3B Eric Chavez from the 60-day DL and Place DH Frank Thomas on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 28 with right quadriceps tendinitis.
A surprise of a move.  Chavez was not expected to be called up until next week at the earliest.  Thomas' injury moved up the timetable significantly.  What can I say?  Chavez had three surgeries in the off-season.  He hasn't played since late last July.  He did hit .367 in 30 at-bats in Triple-A with two home runs.  He'll DH for now.  I suppose he might be worth a spot start.

Braves Place OF Matt Diaz on the 15-day DL with a strained ligament in his left knee and Activate Rafael Soriano from the 15-day DL.
Soriano returns, but is he the closer?  If he is, for how long?  John Smoltz is starting his minor league rehab assignment and could be back with the team as early as today.  Do they share the job?  Basically, if Soriano is free in your league, don't bid on him as a closer for the rest of the season.  There are too many questions about him right now.

Reds Option OF Corey Patterson to Triple-A Louisville.
They don't need another outfielder with Jay Bruce up and playing well.  I'm kind of surprised that Patterson had an option left.

Indians Activate RHP Jake Westbrook from the 15-day disabled list and Designate RHP Jorge Julio for assignment.
Westbrook was a little rusty in his first start back.  I'm kind of surprised about the Indians dropping Julio.  Yes, he had a 5.60 ERA, but he was just praised for his work.  Personally, I'd rather have Julio moping up for me than Scott Elarton.

Yankees Place RHP Ian Kennedy on the 15-day DL with bursitis and a strained right back muscle.
More importantly, he might loose his job and end up back in Triple-A when he comes off.

Blue Jays Place C Gregg Zaun on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 26, with a strained right elbow and Recall C Curtis Thigpen from Triple-A Syracuse.
Zaun has a strained right elbow and is expected to miss just the minimum.  Thigpen backs up Rod Barajas.

Reds Purchase the contract of OF Jay Bruce from Triple-A Louisville and Designate INF Scott Hatteberg for assignment.
Bruce is the real deal and the closest thing you are going to get to a 2008 version of Ryan Braun.  Don't bother looking for him on your free agent roster.  Most likely, he was already gone.  This could be the end of the line for Scott Hatteberg.  His age and lack of pop limits him as a first baseman.  His inability to adjust to a pinch hitting role also hurts him.

Tigers Place Gary Sheffield on the 15-day DL with a left oblique strain.
Ah yes, the oblique strain.  Simple words that sound like fingernails on a chalkboard for the fantasy owner.  Oblique strains do not have a timeline.  You get over them when you get over them.  Broken bone?  Four to six weeks.  Sprained ankle?  Two weeks?  Oblique strain?  Could be months.  Could be the minimum.  With Sheffield's advanced age, it may take a while.

Pirates Activate SS Jack Wilson from the 15-day DL.
Wilson had a calf injury that took a long time to heal, but it looks like he's over it.  He'll hit about .280 and might break double digits in home runs.

Blue Jays Activate SS David Eckstein from the 15-day DL.
He doesn't have much value from a fantasy perspective, but he's a spark plug on a major league roster.

Diamondbacks Reinstate INF Chad Tracy from the 15-day DL.
Tracy has said that he's not 100%, so look for him to be the part time player resting both Mark Reynolds and Connor Jackson.

Rockies Place OF Matt Holliday on the 15-day DL.
He has said that he expects to be back on June 10th, the first day he is eligible.

Dodgers Place OF Andruw Jones on the 15-day DL with torn cartilage in right knee.
Jones certainly has been a disappointment.  Is the knee what is keeping his batting average around .165?  It very well may be.

Tout Wars
No real changes this week.  Furcal needed another week to rest before activation but it happened in time that I didn't accidentally activate him too early.

Former Tout Wars AL champion Trace Wood did take the time to make fun of my team.  I spent the better half of six months intensely preparing for my Mixed team.  They are in the lower half of the standings.  I had only thirty minutes to prepare for the AL auction as Dean Peterson was stuck in Cincinnati.  That team is solidly in top five.  Go figure...
