So, it is spring, and everything is new, and, though I have more than enough roto and fantasy leagues in which to play, well, like kids or dogs, I suppose there is always room for another.
Last year I did Jeff Barton's Scoresheet game, something I will try again, hopefully in a keeper format. And, while I was wondering what to do aside from my wonderful Strat leagues--noting that SOMBOE lies ahead--I got an email from my old Bill James leaguemate, Mark Bernstein, noting that STATS had brought their game back, and did I want into a league?
Now, I knowSTATS Fantasy Ball (which looks like the old Bill James game to me) is not really a sim game like Strat and Diamond Legends, but it is fun, and well, I need to try something, so I signed up. Plus, I find the more variations I play, the more insight into all the variations I get (its that diversity thing).
I went out to the STATS website, and they are indeed running the same basic game, where you select 26 players, round robin, with a different draft spot randomly assigned for each position. So, I might draft first at first base, and twelfth at right handed starting pitcher.
And, I will be playing again with old mates like Mark and I hope Pete DeCoursey, and current Strat opponents Dean Peterson and Al Koman, and, playing again in a format that is different than what I have been doing the last chunk of years.
More important, I will be playing against friends, and maybe make some new ones. And, as I regularly try to remind myself, that is the best part.
I am guessing we will be drafting in the next few weeks. Naturally, I will keep you informed.
By the way, check out STATS Fantasy Baseball right here!
