I am last to reply with good reason. I was fine with my start from the sixth spot. Then, someone had to take Lackey. It was me in the fourth. My staff was already weak. Lotta older guys on this team as I just didn't quite value the youth as much as some others at my table.
1. Rollins - glad he fell to me. He went 4th or 5th in the other two drafts in our room. Since we were the phone draft, we were incredibly slow compared to the others. Gave me lots of time to look around. Maybe not good!
2. V Mart - have never taken a catcher so early in my life. I think it is justified. I hope it is justified.
3. A Ram - what is his attitude? What is his health?
4. Lackey - timing is everything.
5. Putz - getting one good closer out of the way.
6. Hawpe - should be fine.
7. Vazquez - Ks.
8. H Matsui - power from a good lineup.
9. Renteria - I predict a breakout season in Det. Wasn't going to pick a second SS this soon, but couldn't pass the value. Hope he runs some.
10. Burrell - first pick I didn't like immediately after I said the name. My excuse is that I had to pee.
11. Delgado - either a brilliant pick or he is toast. Most of the 1Bs were off the board by now. Hope I don't have to move V Mart over.
12. Gagne - risk time. The Brewers have had him pitching on minor league fields. Not good.
13. Lowe - probably a reach this soon. At least he is steady. I missed Penny who was above him on my sheet.
14. K Escobar - rotation filler.
15. Blanton - hoping he will be traded to a power.
16. Pie - steals, please!
17. Ellis - by far the best 2B still on the board.
18. Melky - hoping he'll help.
19. Marcum - upside.
20. Napoli - 2nd catcher will also give me a few steals.
21. Chavez - decent corner guy this late.
22. Diaz - good average.
23. Andrew Miller - seems a common pick among us.
24. Carpenter - one roster spot tied up. I spoke to him in camp last week. I think he will contribute.
25. Rajai Davis - only old OF in front of a starting role and a lot of steals. I will need them badly.
26. Shields - numbers protection.
27. Nomar - insurance. Losing focus as our draft is into its fifth hour and the other groups are done making noise and are filing out of the room.
28. A Gonzo - MIF reserve.
29. G. Floyd - maybe he'll figure it out.
30. Bush - perennial disappointment with good peripherals.
